Nephi’s Ship is the vessel Nephi constructed to carry his people across the waters. The Lord commanded Nephi, “Thou shalt construct a ship, after the manner which I shall show thee,” and told him where to find ore for tools (1 Nephi 17:8-10).
Nephi made tools from ore and built the ship “after the manner which the Lord had shown unto me” (1 Nephi 17:16; 1 Nephi 18:2). After the ship was finished, Lehi’s family entered it with provisions, seeds, wives, and children (1 Nephi 18:4-6).
The company put forth into the sea and was driven by the wind toward the promised land (1 Nephi 18:8). After the storm ceased, Nephi guided the ship, and the company arrived at the promised land (1 Nephi 18:21-23).
