Plants are living growths cultivated or used by people. The Lehites “began to plant seeds” brought from Jerusalem; those seeds “did grow exceedingly,” and the people were blessed in abundance (1 Nephi 18:24).
God prepared “many plants and roots” whose excellent qualities helped “remove the cause of diseases” associated with the climate. These plants limited deaths from fevers that were frequent in certain seasons (Alma 46:40).
Settlers in the land northward allowed “whatsoever tree should spring up upon the face of the land” to grow. They preserved that growth so they could later have timber for houses, cities, temples, synagogues, sanctuaries, and other buildings (Helaman 3:9).
