Provisions

Provisions are supplies prepared, carried, reserved, or sent for a group’s support. Nephi’s family prepared “much fruits and meat from the wilderness, and honey in abundance,” with “provisions according to that which the Lord had commanded us,” before going down into the ship. They took their provisions aboard and “put forth into the sea” toward the promised land (1 Nephi 18:6-8).

Helaman reported that “there was brought unto us many provisions from the fathers of those my two thousand sons,” providing for ten thousand men and for their wives and children. The Lamanites tried to stop “our receiving provisions and strength,” and Antipus ordered Helaman to march as if carrying provisions to a neighboring city (Alma 56:27-30). Nephites reserved provisions, horses, cattle, and flocks so that they might subsist for seven years (3 Nephi 4:4).
