Whale is a creature used in the Lord’s comparison of the Jaredites’ voyage: “ye shall be as a whale in the midst of the sea.” He said that mountain waves would dash upon them and that he would bring them up “out of the depths of the sea” (Ether 2:24).
As the Jaredites were driven forth, “no monster of the sea could break them, neither whale that could mar them.” They had light continually above or under the water (Ether 6:10).
